For the best part of a decade I have been working in a therapeutic capacity with young people aged 11-20. This experience has challenged, humbled and amazed me in equal measure. I have worked with young people who were brave enough to share their lives, struggles and mental health with me. It was a pleasure and privilege to be allowed access into their worlds.
Politicians and the media both frequently comment upon an “adolescent mental health crisis”. In my experience, it can be seen that support services have been reduced and there is an increasing demand from young people in distress. I believe this increasing demand is due to changing attitudes towards mental health and help seeking, young people facing increasing pressures and generation specific issues (cyberbullying, internet safety to name a few).
I have seen my role in various services and private practice as enabling young people to build resilience, develop healthy coping mechanisms and to support them in moving forward.
Due to the nature of lone – working, part-time working and working in Private Practice I am only able to take clients on currently who are 16 years old and above. If you are between 16-25 and would like support please do not hesitate to contact me.
